CanTeen: Strategic review & evaluation (July - December 2004)

CanTeen is a national peer support organization for young people aged between 12 and 24 years of age who are living with cancer. Started in 1985, CanTeen’s Mission is ‘Supporting, developing and empowering young people living with cancer’. CanTeen has several different programs, camps and activities for patients, siblings, bereaved siblings, bereaved offspring and young people whose parent has cancer.

Orfeus Research is assisting CanTeen conduct an initial evaluation of its programs. To date some of this work has involved:

  • Undertaking a review of the scientific literature on cancer peer support models
  • Conducting focus groups and in-depth interviews with key internal and external stakeholders including members, health professionals, medical experts and parents
    of members.

The findings from this research will feed into a major organizational review being led by CanTeen’s CEO, Dr Andrew Young.
